A nonpartisan effort to encourage young voters to take part in the Iowa
caucuses will seek to secure pledges from high school seniors and
college students.
Called Rock the Caucus, the program has been
endorsed by the Iowa Democratic and Republican parties. Details were
announced Thursday by Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro, Rock the
Vote and Iowa PIRG’s New Voters Project.
“Rock the Caucus will mobilize a new generation of caucusgoers in Iowa,” said Mauro.
Activities
in high schools will include a mock caucus and implementation of a
teaching program on how the caucuses work. On college campuses, student
leaders will be recruited to obtain caucus participation pledges from
peers.
